About Whitening

Professional dental whitening should only be performed by an experienced, qualified, and registered dental professional, using gels and materials approved for use in a dental practice. In order to determine whether you may be suitable for professional dental whitening and, if so, which method might suit best, a consultation is recommended.

Whitening is usually possible either by a single visit to our practice using a “power whitening” style product, where the teeth are bleached in a light-assisted whitening session, which requires approximately one and a half hours or through a home whitening regime in which you bleach your teeth at home by using custom-made dental whitening trays and prescription gel over a period of about seven days. The in-office power whitening is slightly more expensive and offers more immediate results; others prefer the convenience and lower cost of whitening at home. The two methods, outlined more fully below, are a matter of personal preference. Final results are generally comparable with either method.

In-Office Whitening

In-office whitening requires only one visit to Signature Dental. During this visit, a whitening gel is applied to your teeth and a special light is used to assist activation of the material.  Additionally, we will provide you with customized trays for home whitening, should you wish to do your own whitening touch-ups in the future to keep your teeth at their brightest.

Professional Home Whitening Regime

Home whitening requires a short initial appointment during which impressions of your teeth are made for the fabrication of custom whitening trays. A brief second appointment, a few days later, is arranged for the delivery of your whitening trays, whitening gel, and a few simple instructions for their use. Home whitening with professional strength whitening gel requires custom trays to be made by an experienced, qualified, and registered dental professional from accurate models of a person’s teeth. We offer home touch up whitening products for use to keep your teeth at their brightest.
